Mdundo Partners with MTN
Mdundo Partners with MTN: One of the top music streaming platforms in Africa, Mdundo.com, has teamed up with MTN South Africa to offer the Mdundo Premium service to MTN subscribers all throughout the nation.
Last month, Mdundo announced that it would partner with MTN South Africa, MTN Ghana, and MTN Nigeria to launch the Mdundo DJ mix. The premium service will allow customers to stream and download unique and exclusive DJ mixes for R2 a day. This is just one of the many MTN deals that customers can now enjoy.
Mdundo boasts 2.2 million monthly users active on mdundo.com in South Africa. The partnership with MTN will give even more South African consumers the opportunity to subscribe and have access to popular daily mixtapes and a specially selected mix of the biggest genres of music. This will make it easy for everyone to discover and download the music they like.
The benefits of Mdundo and MTN’s partnership
This partnership is perfect because it integrates two very successful companies. Mdundo, a top pan-African music service, has 21.5 million active users each month. Mdundo’s expansion and monetization plans heavily rely on its collaborations with other African networks and large pan-African telecom companies like MTN, which operates in 16 African regions and has more than 200 million mobile customers overall.
In 2021, Mdundo introduced telco-partnerships as a new monetizing strategy and stated that over the following few years, this revenue stream would account for 40% of the company’s revenue. About 18% of revenue in the fiscal year that ended in June 2022 came from telco products. Due to these collaborations, 185 million customers in Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, and South Africa—or almost 25 percent of the 600 million mobile subscribers in Sub-Saharan Africa – can now access the Mdundo music packages.
“We see great potential for the service in South Africa, with a strong and growing music scene.” “MTN’s forthcoming approach to digital innovation makes the company the perfect partner for us in South Africa,” says Mdundo CEO Martin Moeller Nielsen.
Other initiatives MTN is doing to grow SA music:
The partnership with Mdundo is not MTN’s only new project. It has launched a metaverse platform, altMTN, where it will host a virtual music concert. In partnership with The Mic:Africa, which is an arts, music, and culture networking platform, this will be Africa’s first metaverse concert. MTN wants to be a part of unlocking immersive experiences in Africa while supporting African innovation.
Leanne Morais, the Senior Manager for MTN Music, says that “Together with partners across the country and into Africa, MTN’s digital services arm aims to leverage our ecosystem to bring the very best in mobile money, lifestyle, and entertainment data products and services to customers.” “Driving local digital innovation is important for us, and this partnership with Mdundo is the perfect example of our investment in innovations that not only deliver on the needs and preferences of our customers but that will also drive our country and the economy forward.”
