Early years
Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper was born on July 2, 1993, in Santa Clara, California. Her mother, Trinidad, is of Filipino and Chinese descent, while her father, Johnny, is African-American. She spent her early years in Hayward and later moved to Sacramento. She attended Merrill F. West High School in Tracy and later graduated from Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove. Career
Saweetie started her career by posting short raps on her Instagram account in 2016. One of her videos featured her rapping to the beat of Khia’s song “My Neck, My Back (Lick It),” which eventually became her single “Icy Grl.” The song was released on her SoundCloud page in 2017 and brought her to the attention of producer and A&R executive Max Gousse, who eventually became her manager. In the same month, she released a freestyle rap, “High Maintenance,” accompanied by a short clip of herself rapping a verse to the song, all while chilling in her kitchen.
