Marlon Lamont Wayans was born on July 23, 1972, in to Elvira and Howell Wayans, a homemaker and supermarket manager. Raised in the housing projects of New York City, Wayans is the youngest of 10 siblings, including Keenen Ivory, Nadia, Shawn, Dwayne, Damon, Sr., and Kim Wayans, all of whom are associated with the entertainment industry.
At the age of eleven, Marlon worked at a pizza shop, gaining his first taste of the working world. He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City and later enrolled at Howard University in Washington, D.C., but dropped out to pursue acting .
Career
Wayans rose to prominence in the early ’90s working on projects with his brothers that included the sketch comedy series “In Living Color” and the sitcom “The Wayans Bros.” He was initially considered for the role of Robin in the 1992 film “Batman Returns”, but the character was omitted. He was later signed for the role in the 1995 sequel “Batman Forever”, but a change in directors led to his part being recast, with Chris O’Donnell taking over. Despite this, Wayans still receives royalty payments and allowed his likeness to be used for Robin in the 2021 comic book adaptation “Batman ’89”.
Wayans produced and co-wrote the first two “Scary Movie” films, released in 2000 and 2001, and appeared in “Requiem for a Dream” and “Dungeons & Dragons” in 2000. He also hosted the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards with his brother Shawn and produced the Nickelodeon cartoon “Thugaboo”. In 2017, NBC gave him his own sitcom, “Marlon”, which was renewed for a second season and is now available on Netflix. Wayans launched a YouTube channel in partnership with Shots Studios and signed a deal with HBO Max in 2020.
